ORAL DENTAL WEEK ORGANISED AT CT

The changing life style of the society has brought a drastic change in food habits of the people. In this competitive age, when parents are busy in fulfilling the demands of their family, they fail in providing healthy home-made food to their wards. As a result the children get attracted to junk food which is again harmful for them.

Dental problems have been noticed among the growing children because of which CT Public School took up the initiative to teach oral hygiene to the students and also have a thorough dental check up by renowned dental surgeons of the city. Dr. Bikramjit Singh (M.D.S) of Dental Tree Hi – tech Dental Hospital along with Dr. Chandrika (B.D.S) and Dr. Supreet Uppal (B.D.S.) took up the mammoth task to monitor the dental problems like cavities and oral health of the students and gave prescriptions and also suggested orthodontic consultations.

ANAEMIA AWARENESS CAMP IN BILGA

Students & Teachers of CT Public School and CT Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences create awareness among the gathering about the symptoms, precautionary measures and treatment of Anemia at Village Bilga, Jalandhar on the event of World Health Day, April 7, 2014

Anaemia is a serious problem affecting majorly adolescent girls and malnutrition community which retards their ability to work and learn; and further makes them weak. It was caused due to the decreased iron content in the blood. The World Health Organization has estimated that over one third of the World’s population suffer from anemia.

The recent survey have shown that in India approx 50% girls are suffering from this condition whereas the ratio of the anemia suffering in boys falls around  30%. That also informs that anemia is a wide spreading condition in our society due to various reasons like nutritional deficiency, socio-economic and demographic factors.

The health camp for masses was organized by CT Group of Institutions as ‘Anaemia Detection Camp’ under the guidance and supervision of Civil Hospital Jalandhar and Indian Medical Association, Jalandhar Branch at Guru Arjun Dev Gurudwara Sahib, Bilga Village.

During the camp, over 300 volunteers were examined. A team of 10 members, comprising doctors and technicians from the Civil Hospital, Chawla Nursing Home for IMA- Jalandhar, NSS volunteers from CT Group of Institutions and faculty from CT Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences contributed effectively to estimate the hemoglobin in girls & women and advised them to take enriched and nutritive diet and medication wherever required as per the advice of physician.

The students of class 11th and 12th of CT Public School also participated with full enthusiasm and informed the villagers about precautionary measures, symptoms and treatment guidance related effective points of anaemia.  Students also performed Nukkad Nattak to aware the gathering in an entertaining way.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gagandeep Singh, Secretary, IMA- Jalandhar branch said that India continued to be one of the countries with the highest prevalence of anemia. Prevalence of anaemia was because of low dietary intake, poor availability of iron & proteins and chronic blood loss due to hook worm infestation and malaria. Dr Singh said that studies have shown that infants born to mothers with severe anemia have a higher risk of irreversible brain damage, acute liver damage, lower school achievement, a reduced physical and exercise tolerance and poor immune response. Since anaemia has a serious impact on learning capacity, productivity and survival, there is a need to combat anemia during adolescence and the central government also have such Anemia eradication national program.

There is lack of awareness on the importance of having an optimal hemoglobin level, conveyed Dr Sushma Chawla, President IMA- Jalandhar Branch. “One way to prevent iron deficiency anemia is to increase iron intake through diet. A person can get iron from a variety of foods, especially leafy & green vegetables. The chief reason for anaemia among the girls is that they skip diet for losing weight,” Dr Chawla added and her team of medicos also counseled the young girls for their health and intellect perspectives with nutrition and life style and given them certain tips to prevent anaemia.

Sharing the views Dr Manoj Kumar, Group Director CT Group of Institutions said, “The camps conducted by the CT Group are as a part of its socio responsibility under NSS activities. Keeping the exigency of organizing health-centric programs CT Institutions has signed a MoU with the Civil Hospital Jalandhar for providing health related facilities to the people in surrounding rural areas.”

S. Charanjit Singh Channi, Chairman CT Group of Institutions said, “CT Group of Institutions has always been keen to organize such health awareness camps and campaigns like cancer awareness campaign, Hepatitis Awareness camp, Heart care, blood donation camps etc. and appreciated the services contributed by the experts from Civil Hospital & IMA – Jalandhar Branch for this noble cause”

GREENING THE ENVIRONMENT

Nature is the epitome of beauty and bounteousness, thanks to the designs and diversities employed by the Creator. But man is bent upon robbing nature of her vivid beauty and consequently is doing irreparable harm to himself and it has dawned on him that he is the worst culprit in degrading the environment. The scarcity of agricultural lands became an excuse for man to clear off the dense forests which mitigated the harm and injuries caused by industrialization and urbanization. Trees are mercilessly felled to meet the various needs of the people. Man’s act of deforesting the land is also ominous to the existence of many species of flora and fauna. The adverse impact on biodiversity may destabilize the ecological balance whose ill- effects are quite intangible. Keeping this in mind, CT Public School organized tree plantation to sensitize the young minds and develop a holistic attitude towards Nature in order to enjoy its blessings. The senior wing of the school did a commendable service to the society by greening the environment. The students planted trees and green saplings in and around the school campus. They fixed their name tags on the trees and even pledged to care for them till they attained proper growth. They formed groups, selected open sites and other vacant lands for planting trees of different kinds. In order to create awareness among the students, a workshop was conducted stressing the need to plant more and more trees as they provide life, health, freshness, rain and protect the environment from pollution. Even the teachers participated in the tree plantation programme wholeheartedly. The Principal of the school, Mrs Ranjana Rajput exhorted that such activities should be organized in schools because the young minds of the children are more receptive and sensitive to learn the importance of trees in their lives and their role in protecting and safeguarding the environment.
